UV-C Light

1.What is UV-C light?
UV-C is part of the ultraviolet light spectrum that
comes from the sun but is filtered out by the earth’s
atmosphere. There are three parts of the ultraviolet light spectrum, UV-A or ‘Black light’, UV-B or mid range, this is the light that causes sunburn, and UV-C which is an effective germicide.

2.What is UV-C light used for?
The UV-C band of the light spectrum is most effective in microbial destruction. It is very effective in destroying fungus, mold and mildew, it even kills dust mites, viruses and bacteria up to 99.9% on most surfaces. UV-C light is so effective that it is used in hospitals all across the globe for sterilizing and in DNA and crime scene labs to prevent cross-contamination. In the US the homeland security uses UV-C light to eliminate biological treats.

a.How does UV-C light work?
“UV-C deactivates the DNA of bacteria, viruses and other pathogens and thus destroys their ability to multiply and cause disease. UV-C light causes damage to the nucleic acid of micro organisms by forming covalent bonds between certain adjacent bases in the DNA. The formation of such bonds prevents the DNA from being unzipped for replication, and the organism is unable to reproduce, and the population quickly dies out. This UV-C light kills 99.9% of all allergens it touches.” [taken from purelyproducts.com]
